Ski Morzine to find yourself in a delightful French market town that's close to Geneva for quick transfers. Part of the massive Portes du Soleil, the skiing and especially snowboarding terrain is great for all abilities.

Where?

If you ski Morzine, whatever your ski or snowboard ability, you can be practising within 90 minutes from Geneva airport by car. This is one of the traditional French ski resorts and is a market town within the Portes du Soleil ski area, with its massive 650km of piste. Access is easy, a quick transfer from either Geneva or Chambéry taking you right into the village.

On the slopes

Ski holidays in Morzine ski resort offer something for everyone. Beginners will delight in the easily accessible nursery slopes, while intermediates will find that the Portes du Soleil skiing area is covered in blue and red runs, with some wonderful easy cruising on lovely wide pistes and through big bowls. Advanced skiers will find challenges both on and off piste, including the Swiss wall and the world cup downhill black. Boarders should head for Avoriaz to sample the best 'super pipe' in Europe.

Ski area

If you ski Morzine you are also in the ski region of Portes du Soleil.

Off the slopes

You will be staying in an old market town, so be sure to explore some of the local patisseries and boulangeries. For après ski you'll find a great selection of restaurants, bars and clubs to suit all price points and tastes. There's a bus service to help you enjoy the town, which is somewhat spread out. Other options include bowling, a cinema, a gym and a pool, and of course ice skating and parapenting. It's a good ski resort for families.

WE LIKE

  • Larger local piste area (shared with Les Gets) than other resorts in the vast Portes du Soleil area.
  • Good choice of chalets and hotels, great British ski schools and very close to Geneva airport.
  • Lots of tree-lined runs and wide cruisey pistes - but beginner slopes not good for smaller children.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Bus-ride or long walk to lifts from much of the accommodation. The town itself can suffer from heavy traffic.
  • Only a few tough pistes for experts with limited off piste close to home.
  • The low altitude, a bad snow year can have you skiing on grassey slopes!
