Ski resorts in Sweden
The ski resorts of Sweden are set amid forests, lakes and untouched wilderness. Swedish ski holidays offer the chance to push yourself to the limit or to just slow the pace in some of the more tranquil areas. The country's northerly location means that the snow is reliable and the ski resorts in Sweden have a wide range of runs, slopes and cross-country trails.
The apr?s ski is fairly relaxed, with entertainment laid on in the hotels, cafes and bars within the resorts. You will be able to enjoy Swedish delicacies such as meatballs, smoked fish and reindeer. Another attraction of ski holidays in Sweden is the fact that nearly everyone speaks English.
Who will enjoy?
Sweden is the perfect destination for anyone wanting to escape the purpose built resorts of other countries. Sweden ski resorts have facilities for every level of skier and snowboarder. Many resorts in the southern mountains are very good for families.
The skiing areas are fairly limited, but there is plenty to keep you occupied. You could try your hand at tobogganing, ice fishing, dog-sledding, ice fishing or reindeer-sledding, to name just a few of the activities on offer.
How many destinations?
There are about twenty six Sweden ski resorts. The two main resorts are Are and Vemdalen, which are both good for all levels of skiers. The more northern resorts, such as Riksgransen, are very popular with snowboarders looking for a challenge.
Accommodation?
Ski accommodation is generally in hotels, apartments and cosy chalets. Many hotels have excellent leisure facilities, so why not treat yourself to a Swedish sauna followed by a dip in an icy lake!
