Portes du Soleil ski area

Ski in Portes du Soleil and you'll be treated to some of the best views in France. The linked ski area, comprising the resorts of Avoriaz, Morzine, and Les Gets (amongst  12 in total), offers not only great scenery, but great skiing as well.

One of the largest ski areas in France, Portes du Soleil is nestled close to the French/Swiss border, and has a huge 650km of pisted runs. There are 209 drag and chair lifts linking the slopes with the villages.

Visiting Portes du Soleil

In the Portes du Soleil there's around 14% of the runs labelled green for beginners, with a further 39% blue for the more experienced. Expert skiers have a choice between 37% of red runs and a smaller, but outstanding choice of blacks. These black runs include the world famous 'the wall' and a world cup run at Hautes Fortes.

With continual improvements in facilities, snowboarders haven't been forgotten either, with a good beginners area at Morzine, and Avoriaz.  Avoriaz is a high altitude resort, so it's north facing slopes are snow assured throughout the season, which runs from mid December until mid April.

The après ski scene in this area is fairly quiet, with a small selection of bars and restaurants, though tour operators do offer a range of entertainment and other activities. These could include ski away days, tobogganing, wine tasting and karaoke. Portes du Soleil has charm, atmosphere, great scenery and it's only 2 hours from Geneva airport. Surely visiting is a must for any winter sports enthusiast.
