Ski Livigno

Ski Livigno for an inexpensive winter vacation in the Italian Alta Valtellina Ski Area. Skiing & snowboarding in Italy offers a great holiday experience - although this resort is a little inaccessible.

Where

If you want to ski Livigno, there's two things you should know - this is both the cheapest and probably the most inaccessible resort in the Alps. If you can put up with the transfer from the large airports (like up to 4 hours from Bergamo or 4 hours from Zurich) you'll find a resort that is great for discovering skiing or snowboarding without a big financial outlay.

On the slopes

Ski Livigno and you will not see the vast crowds you can at other ski resorts - apart from at Christmas and New Year. Beginners will find a dozen blue nursery drags on Carosello to get them started, while intermediates should head for the steeper slopes on Monte Sponda and Il Mottolino. For advanced skiers, there may be not enough challenges to last a full week. The rolling slopes above tree-line can be accessed by the Carosello gondola, which rises to 3000m. Therefore, the highest pistes are nearly guaranteed great snow.

Ski area :

If you ski Bormio you are also in the ski region of Alta Valtellina along with the following resorts; valtellina.

Off the slopes

If low price is important to you, then ski Livigno this winter! It is duty free, a status conferred on it in 1600 and confirmed by Napoleon in 1805 and the EC in 1960. There are four hamlets - Santa Maria, San Antonio, San Rocco, and Trepalle - of these, San Antonio is considered the main resort, and has the majority of the hotels, bars, and restaurants. Nightlife is a little limiting - and there's no close by Big Brother to go to shoudl you require more action.

  • Large choice of beginners slopes and some great intermediates
  • Cheap by the standards of high resorts, with the bonus of duty-free shopping

WE DON'T LIKE

  • No challenging pistes within the immediate resort pistes
  • Long transfers from Big airports - up to 4hr from Bergamo, less from Innsbruck
  • Nightlife can disappoint as limited bars and clubs
