Wengen

Ski Wengen for a gorgeous, car-free location in the Swiss Alps. If you want skiing and snowboarding in Switzerland, then 100kms of piste set in the Jungfrau has to be an option.

Where?

Located in Central Switzerland, ski Wengen for a ski resort based on peaceful south facing slopes. There are almost 100kms of slopes to sample, offering something for all levels of skier. There are good rail and road links, while Berne-Belp Airport is around one hour away by rail, two hours by road.

On the slopes

Ski Wengen and you have the stunning backdrop of the Jungfrau and Eiger all around you. Beginners will find the nursery slopes and a "slow speed zone" in Grindelwald a great place to learn, while intermediates should try the 8km Oberjuch run on the Kleine Scheidegg, or the powder slopes at Eigergletscher. Experts can sample the Black Rock runs, or the near vertical Kanonenrohr, while boarders will enjoy 2 half pipes, a jumper's corner at Wengen, and a terrain park.

Ski area

If you ski Wengen you are in the Bernese Oberland and the Swiss ski region of Jungfrau.

Off the slopes

Après ski in Wengen is of the relaxed variety, with fine dining in quality resort restaurants, with a choice of local fare or more international haute cuisine. There's also the opportunity to socialise at the small selection of bars and discos, or more cultural events such as musical concerts or folklore evenings.

Away from the slopes you can try natural ice-skating, mountaineering, snowshoeing, paragliding and tobogganing.

WE LIKE

  • Set amidst some of the most spectacular scenery in the alps, with the backdrop of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau,
  • Lots of long, gentle runs, ideal for intermediates and for beginners. The nursery slopes are right in the heart of the village.
  • Good for families, calm and unhurried atmosphere, a traffic free village. Good mountain restaurants.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Limited terrain for experts and adventurous intermediates. Trains to slopes are also slow and infrequent.
  • Despite some snowmaking, snow conditions are unreliable lower down due to South facing slopes.
  • Subdued in the evening, with little variety of nightlife - great for families!
