A few years ago " lets ski Bulgaria " was not a phrase you would have heard too often. However, skiing and snowboarding resorts in Bulgaria have improved and general snow conditions ensure that if you ski Bulgaria - you'll be impressed at the value for money. In 2009, they also hosted a round of the Ladies Ski World Cup in Bansko.
Skiing or snowboarding when you ski Bulgaria offers some good value for money winter holidays. The ski areas may not be on a scale of Expace Killy or Chamonix, but big sums of money are being invested to increase their capabilities. Ski resorts in Bulgaria are very modern and are all well equipped. If you want to ski Bulgaria to learn to ski or snowboard, then it's perfect and doesn't cost the earth. A number of the main ski operators offer packages.
Who will enjoy?
All ages, but mostly beginners or intermediates. Nighlife is good (and cheap) but overall it is families that are being encouraged - using the relative value for money as a big draw. You will find that food in Bulgaria is relatively basic in comparison to say Italy or France, however the advatnage is that it's cheap and you always get good portions.
How many destinations?
As still a relatively new addition to the European ski scene, you can ski Bulgaria through the three key resorts of Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo - we have reviewed all three for you. There are others but those are not covered by the main ski operators as yet.
Accommodation
A wide range of accommodation is available both at half board or with self accommodation. Hotels are the main places to stay - so if it's your first skiing or snowboarding experience - let someone else do the hard work.
