Ski Borovets

Ski Borovets and you are skiing (or snowboarding) one of the largest and most well known resorts in all of Bulgaria spread across three different regions. Hosting a wide variety of slopes, most for intermediate skiers, there's also lots of nightlife.

Where

An hour drive from the capital of Bulgaria, ski Borovets and you get history going back to 1896! Today this is one of the biggest and most modern resorts in Bulgaria - it's also the largest resort in Eastern Europe. Accessible from Sofia airport as well as by rail, or driving - we recommend you hire a car to fully explore the area and avoid paying a large taxi fare.

On the slopes

When you ski Borovets ski resort, there's three zones that are part of the ski area which are not fully linked together - yet. Plans are in the works to make them widely accessible to each other but just so you know! Due to the fact that there are three mountain areas there are plenty of slopes to visit adding up to a total of 58km with the highest lift reaching upwards to 2540m.

There are 11 slopes for intermediate skiers; which is why this ski resort is known best for its intermediate slopes, but there are also five slopes each for beginners and advanced skiers so it is still a location all levels can enjoy. One of the downsides of the Borovets ski resort area is that there is only one gondola and three lifts which can make it crowded in the queues on the weekends.

Off the slopes

Besides being so close to the capital of Bulgaria, one of the main reasons that people enjoy holidays in Borovets is due to its low cost. The Borovets ski resort provides for a cheap holiday both on and off the slopes with plenty or low cost activities and nightlife to keep people who intend to party on their ski holiday satisfied. Want cheap beer? It's about 3leva for 660ml ~ £1.50 for more than a pint - bargain!

There are plenty of bars, nightclubs, dancehalls, and wine bars to keep people satisfied and beer is very reasonably priced for a resort location. For children there are also many local shops, restaurants, and sleigh rides to explore that are excellent for adults as well. While at the ski resort also make sure to try the local Bulgarian cuisine as the locals can create delicious mouth watering meals you are not likely to experience anywhere else.

WE LIKE

  • Excellent for beginners or intermediates
  • Due to the altitude and it's location, there's great snow conditions almost all season
  • A modern resort, it comes with good hotels and is really great value for money. Only one hours drive from ther capital Sofia.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Only real challenge is the World Cup run or some off-piste
  • No terrain park for freestylers & boarders
  • Weekends can get a bit busy on the slopes - but nothing compared to France or Italian resorts
