Ski Sportgastein

Ski Sportgastein for high altitude skiing with 24km across 8 pistes at up to 2686m. Based within the Ski Amadè ski area, skiing & snowboarding here is superb with a long season and great pistes and some awesome off-piste.

Where

If you ski Sportgastein you will have to get used to good snow! Staying in Bad Gastein, this area boasts the highest altitude skiing area in the region, up to 2686m. Although it has just 3 lifts and eight slopes, there's almost 24km of piste, it is known for the quality of its snow. Access to Bad Gastein is best from Klagenfurt or Salzburg airports with the latter taking about 90 minutes.

On the slopes

Experts will enjoy the Sportgastein ski area. As the highest altitude resort in the region it is famous for its deep powder snow and when conditions are right there are some fantastic deep powder runs on and off piste. If you ski SportGastein, (you are based in Bad Gastein) the lowest lift is at 1590m and this goes up to 2650m. Great for powder - great for the long runs with some challenging pistes. You also have thew fall back that you are within the larger ski area that provides all the easy or intermediate runs as well as a lot more pisted options and terrain parks.

Ski area :

If you ski Sportgastein you are also in the ski region of Ski Amadé along with the following resorts; amade.

Off the slopes

Staying in Bad Gastein, eating out offers an impressive range of choices, over 35 in all, and the après-ski is good. Away from the slopes there's a great choice of activities, including ice skating, curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice climbing, and snow shoe walking. Overall, an attractive town with great night-life which means it is probably not the best choice for a family holiday with small children - although older families will really enjoy what is has to offer.

WE LIKE

  • High altitude skiing and access to rest of Ski Amadé
  • Brand new Stubnerkogelbahn 8 person gondola direct from Bad Gastein to SportGastein area
  • Lots of powder and good hard packed snow

WE DON'T LIKE

  • It's not a resort as such - the resort is Bad Gastein
  • Very limited pisted runs - lots of off piste
  • Accessing other ski area slopes a bit of a hassle as not lift linked
