Ski Mutters

Ski Mutters (or MuttererAlm as also known) for a quiet resort that was rebuilt in 2006. With ideal slopes for skiing & snowboarding for children and families, it's also perfect for those wanting a quieter more authentic Austrian ski resort.

Where

Located in South Tyrol, Austria, ski Mutters and you are in what's been voted previously as the most beautiful village in the Tyrol as you're surrounded by Forest and have spectacular views of the Inn valley. You are also within striking distance of the city of Innsbruck (in fact about 5km South) which makes it incredibly accessible via the Innsbruck airport with just a short ski transfer - perfect then for weekends.

On the slopes

In the last couple of years the Mutters ski resort area has been through many changes - including being re-opened as a ski resort. It is now mostly marketed as a family ski resort with plenty of beginners' areas and pistes like the Almboden nursery slope. However, the locals skied the area long before it was reconstructed in 2006 and if you take advantage of Mutters ski resort local guides you can find many challenging areas off piste to challenge yourself.

In fact in Mutters are the Muttereralm FIS run, a black run called the Pfriemesköpfl and a long cruisy family run down to Götzens. There's a very good ski school for those who wish to perfect their sport and due to the wide array of slope terrains snowboarders also enjoy travelling down the more narrow slopes and trickier terrains. The resort is linked by a tram to the Innsbruck slopes as well as the Fumes and Schlock ski area - so there's penty for everyone to seek out whatever your level of ability.

Off the slopes

Located in the heart of the Tyrol, the beautiful village of Mutters is predominately a small farm town that has preserved its cultural distinction - despite the influx of holiday skiers. Many tourists find the area enjoyable due to its quietness and many local shops and authentic Austrian restaurants.

On the other hand, those who are looking for more après activities will not find many options here, but can travel down the road to visit Innsbruck if a car is hired making it perfect for those who want quiet, with the opportunity to party when the timing permits.

WE LIKE

  • Excellent resort for beginners with dedicated areas, good instruction and
  • This an almost exclusively family resort - and it does it well
  • It's connection to the Olympia SkiWorld area means there's 280km of extended piste you can enjoy

WE DON'T LIKE

  • It is a little limited as a ski resort in it's own right
  • Almost no nightlife in resort - even by Austrian standards - because Innsbruck is 10 mins by cab!
  • Having Innsbruck so close means sometimes the pistes can get a bit busy on nice days
