San Cassiano is a quiet, pretty village with beautiful Italians and Michelin starred restaurants. Not much here for experts but beautiful all the same.

Where?

San Cassiano is part of the Alta Badia ski area set amidst the spectacular scenery of the Dolomites. It is just 25m from Cortina. The nearest International airport is Innsbruck with  a transfer time of 2 hours. Or you are just 2.5 hours away from Venice.

On the slopes

The local slopes here are very easy and so are great for beginners and children just starting out. There are also some good intermediate slopes and also the famous Sella Ronda run, a 14 mile circular tour of the Sella Massif through Selva, Colfosco, Corvara, Arabba and Canazei. The whole journey will take 4-6 hours but is an amazing ski tour. But the real problem here is that there really isn't much for good intermediates or experts to do. You will have to head out into the Sella Ronda and aim for Arabba where you will find good, steep runs.

Off the slopes

There is little else here in terms of winter sports although there is an ice rink, sports centre and a swimming pool. But, and this is the big but, the food and drink is great. It is also far more affordable than in Switzerland or Austria and two restaurants have Michelin stars-St Hubertus and La Siriola. Wealthy Italians come here to eat, drink and do some skiing-probably in that order! This resort doesn't offer hard core skiing and boarding but it is beautiful and quiet, with great food.
