Ski Mottaret-Meribel for a complete range of slopes for everyone in the magnificent Trois Vallées ski area. Whether you like your skiing and snowboarding advanced or whether you're a beginner, you get a great resort atmosphere with a little après ski.

Where?

Located in the Meribel Valley, ski Mottaret and you are in one of the higher areas of France and sharing the pistes with it's far better known neighbour. In fact Mottaret is three kilometres higher up the Meribel valley from Meribel centre. Known for its easy access to high slopes and all of the nearby trails on both Mount Vallon and the Cote Brune Mountain. Access is simplest from Chambéry or Turin airports with under two hours transfer times.

On the slopes

Due to the fact that the Mottaret ski resort is linked with the shared slope area of the Meribel ski resort, it's excellent central location offers more slopes to try out then many other ski resorts in France. Although the largest chunk of slopes are for advanced skiers at 114, there are still plenty of options for beginners and experts since the 600km of pistes of the resort also include 121 beginners slopes and 33 expert slopes. Additionally, the Table Verte forest helps shelter the area from bad weather if severe storms hit during a holiday ski excursion.

While you may think that transportation around the ski area would be a problem, the 6 cable cars, 33 gondolas, and 69 chairs that make moving among the trails of the valley simple and flawless although it may take some time to travel between mountains. For snowboarders there are also nine parks and three nursery areas to help teach children how to ski since it's known as a family friendly area.

Ski area

If you ski Mottaret you are also in the ski region of the Les Trois Vallees.

Off the slopes

Best known for families, when you ski Mottaret you get a pretty quiet area located near a friendly town that has a night scene, but it is not a lively frantic club scene. Thus, if you can be satisfied with a few bars and nightclubs this resort is a fine place to stay with plenty of other options. There are a plethora of restaurants that can be reached through the Truite piste and a winding road as well as plenty of outdoor activities such as ice skating, sleigh rides, and nature hikes for those who want to explore the local intricacies of the area.

WE LIKE

  • Ski-in ski-out accommodation on the slopes right above Méribel - perfect!
  • Excellent for beginners and timid intermediates with wide pistes and not too much crowding
  • Great central location in the vast area of the Three Valleys, huge amount of off piste from Mont Vallon and Mont de La Chambre

WE DON'T LIKE

  • You can feel a little isolated up in the resort - but Méribel is so close you can spend your time down there!
  • Not the cheapest resort to be coming too - the Euro only makes this more expensive
  • Mottaret does not do nightlife - you can ski down to Meribel for nightlife and après-ski
