If you ski Les Deux Alpes (or 2Alpes) invariably there's lots of sun and snow at peak holiday periods on Europe's largest glacier at 3600m. For skiing and snowboarding in France this is one of Europe's premiere destinations without a doubt.
Where
What's not to love when you ski Les Deux Alpes? It's considered one of Europe's most snowsure resorts and is enjoyed by skiers and snowboarders alike not only for the skiing but for the beautiful scenery and glacier. And with the slopes of La Grave now available on the same lift pass there is even more choice of skiing. The nearest airports are Grenoble and Chambéry about 90 minutes away.

On the slopes
So ski holidays in Les Deux Alpes? As a world class resort with the highest skiable glacier in Europe - just about everyone! Beginners are well catered for, with lots of gentle runs above the village, while intermediates will love the wide open pistes of the glacier. More experienced skiers can try a mile-long couloir, or explore the off-piste skiing of La Grave, now linked on the same lift pass.
Boarders will find a challenging boarder cross, fun park and half pipe, which is one of the best in Europe. In fact skiing and snowboarding-wise this is a great resort for variation. For the more daring amongst you - La Grave is another resort to do once in your lifetime - but you need to be advanced as it's virtually all off-piste and ungroomed!
Ski area :
If you Ski Les Deux Alpes you are also in the ski region of Grand Galaxie along with the following resorts; La Grave, Les Deux Alpes, Serre Chevalier
.
Off the slopes
The fun starts at lunchtime in Les Deux Alpes, with Chalet de la Toura recommended for both food and views - other great lunch options include the accurately named Panoramique, and the Pastorale. Foodies will find haute cuisine at Chalet Mounier or the Hotel Berangere restaurant. Cheaper options worth trying include the Spaghetteria or the Vetrata. Après-ski is lively, with plenty of bars to choose from. The British crowd favour Mike's and The Windsor, or else you can head to Smokey Joe's and The Baron.
WE LIKE
- High, snow-sure, varied slopes, including an extensive glacier area
- World class resort in every sense - one resort to do before you die!
- Funicular ralway gives non skiers access to the Glacier and stunning viewsof the Ecrin pistes
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Piste network modest by mega-resort standards and badly congested in places
- Home runs are either steep and icy or dangerously overcrowded ? so people queue for a lift down instead
- Virtually no woodland runs - which bad weather means no where to hide!
