Where
If you ski Silver Star this winter, it's a resort that's easily reached from Kelowna Airport in south-central British Columbia. With 107 slopes and a great variety of terrain - there are steeps, moguls, groomed runs, and wide-open cruising runs, everyone will be happy. There's also some great cross-country (it's used as a training ground by Canada's National Cross-Country Ski Team) and excellent family facilities. It's also a short drive away from its sister resort, Big White Ski Resort.
On the slopes
With 115 slopes to choose from, ski Silver Star and get variety including some great back-country (off-piste)! For beginners and intermediates there are easy slopes at Vance Creek, while more advanced skiers should seek out the challenges at Putnam Creek. You should also check out Big White Mountain - this resort is available on the same ski pass and offers great intermediate sliding and lots of deep powder. The resorts are linked by ground shuttles and a helicopter service. Skiing and snowboarding in Canada - this resort included - is excellent and great value for money in direct comparison to Europe.
Off the slopes
At Silver Star you will find a ski-in/ski-out village with eight hotels and over 100 vacation homes dotted around the slopes, while the village itself has painted wooden buildings and a quaint Victorian atmosphere - in fact it was inspired by a typical nineteenth century British Columbian mining town era. It is pedestrianised, and is a great place to relax après-ski, with a good selection of cafés and restaurants, plus a saloon, a wine cellar, several bars and clubs, and a casino. You'll also find a range of amenities including shops, an aquatic centre, and childcare.
