Ski Big White

Ski Big White and get, on average, over 7 metres of fluffy white powder every year! If you are skiing or snowboarding in Canada this is one of the many great resorts for families with ski-in, ski-out conditions in British Columbia.

Where

Hidden away in British Columbia, ski Big White after a 4.5 hour transfer from Vancouver airport or just 1 hour from Kelowna airport. The Big White ski resort is modern and regularly gets rave reviews from the Canadian and Worldwide press. The skiing and snowboarding in Canada, and in this resort in particular, are perfect for families and for intermediates - but apart from off-piste, it's a bit limiting for experts. Offers basic right through to ultimate luxury accommodation.

On the slopes

When you ski Big White as well as the 'snow ghosts', there's 118 slopes, 12 lifts and perfect conditions for off-piste powder skiing in one of the five bowls. Great for families of all levels, the long winding slopes go right to your doorstep. There's also a great snowpark/terrain park. The only drawback is a lack of really challenging slopes - although we think this is offset by the off-piste & powder you get!

Boarders and freestylers - the $2.5 million Telus Terrain Park includes the Olympic-size 500-foot-long Super Pipe, a 400-foot standard sized halfpipe with 12-foot transitional walls, a new Boarder/Skier-Cross course and separate beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced lanes in the rail park. Awesome!

Off the slopes

Big White ski resort has fewer than normal on-piste restaurants, but is superb generally for non-skiers and après-ski. With Canada's higest ice rink, an adventure park, swimming pool and other activities in this attractive village - you don't have to ski every day. Being Canadian, they've also thought about your children. From the great ski schools to day care, this is a family friendly resort - even off the slopes. A great place for family skiing holidays.

For evenings in Big White Village, Snowshoe Sam's bar is a great place to go with great bar meals but good beer, it stays open really late with DJs lots of dancing and live band performances.

WE LIKE

  • Great for learning to ski powder - 7m+ of it a year!
  • Extensive, varied slopes, quiet except at weekends and holidays
  • Convenient, purpose-built village with high-quality, good-value condos

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Limited après-ski if you are looking to party all night long - but enough for most
  • Few off slope diversions - and isolated without a car
  • Visibility can be poor, especially on the upper mountain, because of snow, cloud or freezing fog
