Ski Stowe and both skiers and snowboarders will enjoy ski holidays with two mountains divided into six distinct areas. With skiing and snowboarding in Vermont offering great snow and off-piste, why not read our review of this great ski resort.

Where

Ski Stowe and you are close to the historical town of Stowe in New England. Offering both great skiing and snowboarding, you get a traditional New England atmosphere. Access is typically via Burlington - you can drive or take a shuttle from the airport - or else the Amtrak service to Waterbury. The resort has 56 slopes covering a total distance of 65kms.

On the slopes

Although it's not the largest single resort, if you ski Stowe in Vermont you get two mountains that offer plenty of variety. 87 slopes spread over two mountains provide skiing for all levels of expertise, with 13 lifts keeping the crowds moving across the 150km+ of trails. Sloped are characterised by long runs through wooded areas or open glades. Boarders will find three terrain parks and a super-pipe, while everyone can enjoy the night skiing and snowboarding. Some of the intermediate runs are simply excellent!

Ski area

If you ski Stowe you are in the US State of Vermont.

Off the slopes

While there is a limited amount of slope side accommodation at Stowe Mountain, for a real choice head into the town of Stowe, where there are hotels, motels and lodges to suit every budget. Après-ski is lively at both the resort and the town below, with a host of restaurants and bars to keep you happy from the minute the lifts stop until well into the early hours if you so choose. You'll also find some great shopping, and when you want a break from skiing, there's ice-skating, sleigh riding and snowmobiling to keep you busy. Families will also enjoy the fact there are plenty of things to do once you come off the slopes - as well as good ski schools on it!

WE LIKE

  • Cute tourist town in classic New England style, great character and charm
  • Some good slopes for all abilities, including some serious challenges further up the mountains. Best for intermediates. Great off piste
  • Great children's facilities and learner slopes with good ski instruction

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Weekend queues are not uncommon as locals flock to the pistes when the weather is good
  • Slopes are a bus-ride from town 15 km away - and there's only minimal lodging close to the slopes
  • No real après-ski atmosphere - despite there being a lot of bars and restaurants - maybe we were there on a bad night?
