Ski Zermatt

Ski Zermatt for a lively, sophisticated resort that's in the shadow of the fearsome and formidable Matterhorn. Ski and snowboard in Switzerland this winter for a holiday you will never forget.

Where

When you ski Zermatt, the ski resort gives you the chance to ski the Klein Matterhorn (3899m), one of the largest glaciers in Europe. There are links to the Italian resorts of Cervinia and Valtourneche just across the border, so there are plenty of choices for you to ski and snowboard here. Access is via Sion and Geneva airports and the roads are pretty good for access.

On the slopes

Ski holidays in Zermatt offer something for all levels of skier and boarder with several snow parks such as the year-round Gravity Park, and plenty of great off-piste for freeriders. Intermediates will enjoy a range of scenic slopes with views across to the Matterhorn, and the long intermediate run into Cervinia is a great way to work up an appetite for a good Italian lunch. Experienced skiers and riders head for the Trockener Steg - Klein Matterhorn - Schwarzsee sector. All round skiing and boarding for everyone.

Ski area :

If you ski Zermatt you are also in the Swiss ski region of Valais.

Off the slopes

Accommodation in Zermatt ski resort comes in all shapes and sizes - hotels, traditional chalets, apartments and guesthouses, while the nightlife is as vibrant as you'd expect. With over 100 restaurants to choose from you'll find whatever you like, from pizza to haute cuisine, and afterwards you can enjoy one the many bars or clubs until the early hours. Those who crave something more low key will find concerts and folklore evenings more to their tastes. Other options include a museum and a cinema.

WE LIKE

  • Reliable snow at altitude - Best of the Alps resort
  • Wonderful, high and extensive slopes and three/four varied areas, amazing world class off piste
  • Spectacular high-mountain scenery, dominated by the Matterhorn

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Beginners should go elsewhere - limited slopes. Not grest for ski in ski out, lifts away from hotels so families may struggle
  • Still a very expensive resort and one of Europe's priciest lift passes
  • Some lift queues at peak periods - but time it right and no problems
