On the slopes

Ski Gstaad if you are a beginner, an intermediate or are planning a family holiday. Those new to skiing should head for the Wispile and Eggli lifts, which offer gentle tree lined runs close to the resort, while intermediates will find the best skiing at Les Diablerets, Villars and Leysin, or on the long tree-lined cruises from Schonreid and Saanenmoser. Advanced skiing and snowboarding nuts will want to go off-piste for a real challenge - look to the area around Schonreid and Saanenmoser for the best conditions.

Ski area :

If you ski Gstaad you are in the Swiss ski region of Bernese Oberland.

Off the slopes

You'll find a good selection of restaurants, cafés, bars, and clubs in Gstaad, but don't expect a wild nightlife. The ski resort of Gstaad used to be the place to go for the jet set, and although there are still some expensive places around, you'll also find many reasonable choices. Away from the slopes there's plenty to do. In addition to the shopping there's a cinema, a gym an indoor and outdoor pool, or you can try skidoo, parapenting, or ice-skating.

RESORT GOOD POINTS

  • Over 200kms of runs available
  • Enjoyble skiing for beginners
  • slopes face north so keep snow reasonably well

RESORT BAD POINTS

  • Fragmented skiing
  • not a huge amount of choice for experts
