Ski La Molina to be presented with great slopes for all levels - and the extended ski area with Masella for more challenges. A wonderful holiday choice set against a historical backdrop in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Where

Located in the Pyrenean mountain range in Catalona, this is Spain's first ski area from 1911. Ski La Molina for scenic slope views, tree-lined pistes and to be close to the Med. This is a resort for those who want a true ski holiday (or snowboarding holiday!). Easily accessible by car and rail, access by flying is via Toulouse airport. Most people also prefer to hire a car for wider après ski options - as La Molina itself is not a party town.

On the slopes

With 53 slopes to choose from, ski La Molina and provided you are a beginner or intermediate skier then you will be very happy. There are also seven expert trails to choose from as well as some great off-piste. The ski resort itself is historical as it has been open since 1911 and was the first ski resort to install a ski lift and has grown to accommodate 16 lifts and one gondola for easy transportation between slopes.

Covering just over 50km with pistes for those who still want more the nearby resort of Masella is linked by train and bus to provide 60km more of additional runs. Snowboarders are also welcome as there's ramps, jumps, and a half pipe plus four ski jumps for adventurous skiers.

Ski area

If you ski La Molina you are also in the ski region of the Catalan Pyrenees.

Off the slopes

One of the greatest aspects of a La Molina ski resort holiday is that there are plenty of activities to do off the slope as well as on. With lots of restaurants that serve a wide variety of food including the local Spanish flavour you will never starve both on and off the slopes.

For those who want more entertainment there are a wide range of bars and nightclubs if you want to have a ski holiday with some nightlife in close proximity La Molina ski resort fits the bill. In particular the nearby city of Puigcerda has plenty of nightlife options or you can stay near La Molina and check out Guitar's indoor bar or the Pub El Brezo. Additionally, there are hiking groups, snowshoes tours, and the Pista Llarga bowling alley for more family orientated options. Many people also enjoy relaxing on a dog sleigh, ice skating, hot air balloon rides, and the many spas available.

WE LIKE

  • The runs are well groomed and offer some great skiing and snowboarding
  • Masella is close by for extended slopes for intermediates and experts
  • Good English speaking instructors at all levels

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Slopes get busy at weekends with everyone descending from the cities
  • Towards end of March snow turns slushy especially further down towards the resort
  • Not the prettiest ski resort in the mountains - there's also not a real centre so can lack some atmosphere
