If you want a ski resort that has steep, challenging runs and you want to get away from fellow Brits, this could be the resort for you. Overlooked by many large ski operators Candanchú offers you stunning scenery and great skiing and boarding.

Where

Situated in the Aragon Pyrenees in Northern Spain, 385km from Barcelona,  Candanchú sits in the province of Huesca close to the French border. The nearest International airport is Barcelona, other airports within a 2 hour drive away include Pau and Zaragoza.

On the slopes

Candanchú is a haven for expert and advanced skiers and boarders. Whilst the runs can be short they are steep and difficult and also offer great off piste. Astun ski resort is also very close offering an additional 43km of skiing and boarding and an additional 43 runs. It is also relatively easy to get to the resorts of Formigal, Panticosa and Cerler, so good variety on offer.

If you ski Candanchú you are also in the ski region of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Off the slopes

The resort itself has 4 restaurants,a disco and 5 bars. There is a good choice of accommodation with hotels, apartments, chalets, an aparthotel and 4 youth hostels. The resort is only 15 minutes away from the historic and pretty town of Jaca, which opens up more accommodation choices. The apres ski is not wild but then this is a resort which will allow you to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of more commercialised resorts, a real Spanish gem.
