Ski Trysil

Ski Trysil and you are close to the Swedish border. With very reliable snow-cover throughout the season, this is the largest ski resort in Norway and has excellent skiing & snowboarding pistes to enjoy for everyone including families.

Where

If you ski Trysil you are a two-hour drive from Oslo and this resort is perfect for families and those learning to ski. Apparently, this was where the world's first ski club was formed in in 1861! The resort has an excellent snow record and a long season, all set amidst a beautiful landscape. There are 25 lifts serving 64 slopes, with 65km of piste - making this the biggest ski resort in Norway. Access is excellent via the airport and trains.

On the slopes

There are reliable snow conditions throughout a long season, and the pistes running through the wooded slopes of Trysilfjellet and are popular with boarders and skiers alike - there are 3 snowboard parks equipped with half pipes and jumps. For beginners, the ski school is highly rated, and the instructors speak good English making a good excuse for you to try skiing and snowboarding in Norway this season. There is also some awesome off piste if you need your fix - so everyone is catered for!!

Off the slopes

Although the village of Trysil is not as picturesque as many Alpine resorts, the accommodation is excellent in a variety of in hotels, apartments, and cabins. The après-ski scene is quiet, thought there are restaurants, bars and cafés to keep you happy in the evening. Other activities include winter fishing, a snowmobile excursion to Sweden, or even a weekend trip to Oslo. There's almost as much to do off the slopes as on them.

  • The expensive food and drink always shocks in Norway
  • Extreme cold conditions again always shocks - you will need thermals in Jan and Feb
  • Lift queues can sometimes get a bit long - especially at busy periods
