Ski Oppdal

Ski Oppdal and you will be 120km away from Trondheim in one of Norway's largest ski centres. With a range of skiing to suit all levels and abilities there are actually three ski areas for you to enjoy and families are well catered for too.

Where

If you ski Oppdal you are in one of Norway's largest downhill ski resorts and you get a long season of snow! Located 120km south of Trondheim, there's three ski areas for you to ski & snowboard - Stölen, Hovden and Vangslia. With a mix of groomed piste, good off-piste skiing, and 60km of cross-country trails you are spoilt for choice. Access is easy via the airports and also on trains.

On the slopes

Nestled in a valley, ski Oppdal for great snow conditions and a long season. You effectively have four resorts to choose from which provide a range of slopes and terrain for all abilities. This is an especially good place for beginners - the ski school is rated as one of the best in Norway, and there are plenty of easy beginners slopes to encourage you to progress. Intermediates will find almost the whole mountain suitable for them, while more advanced skiers should head to Hovden for some seriously steep piste and some great off piste challenges. SO everyone can be happy the whole week long.

Off the slopes

There is a variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets in Oppdal, and the après-ski scene can get quite lively, particularly towards the end of the season (late March and in May), when the skiing is at its best. After-hours activities centre around the town's restaurants, cafés and bars. Don't forget also to try out the cross-country skiing - over 60km of cross-country trails, and endless off-piste trails.

WE LIKE

  • Good selection of terrain for all levels of ability
  • Great snow park for boarders and skiers and lots of empty pistes
  • A traditional ski resort with a vibrant atmosphere and some good après-ski too

WE DON'T LIKE

  • The cold during the Jan - March months - bitter!
  • Until April - May, the days are very short
  • Not the cheapest place to go drinking and eating out - but it's your holiday!
