Ski Bormio

Ski Bormio and you're in what was originally a Roman spa town. For atmospheric evenings and fun skiing and snowboarding in Italy in the Alta Valtellina Ski Area, read the goski.co.uk review.

Where

Ski Bormio and you are staying in a small medieval market and spa town. It's well located, with the resorts of Santa Caterina and Livigno less than 30 minutes away, and St. Moritz just an hour away. First built by the Romans, the pedestrianised town centre really comes to life at night. The only slight issue is the length of the transfer whichever airport you fly in to.

On the slopes

Intermediates will love to ski Bormio, where they will find plenty of long red runs to enjoy. Beginners, too, are well catered for, with a good selection of nursery slopes half-way up the mountain, and an excellent ski school to get you started. Experts won't find much, and will have to head off-piste. If you want more variety, the resorts of Santa Caterina and Livigno are just 30 minutes away, and St. Moritz is an hour away.

Ski area :

If you ski Bormio you are also in the ski region of Alta Valtellina along with the following resorts; valtellina.

Off the slopes

Although the ski resort of Bormio has grown, with plenty of accommodation in the outlying newer developments, the old, pedestrianised centre is the heart of the town. Here you'll find a host of good, inexpensive restaurants catering to all tastes, and enough cafés and bars, although rabid party animals might want to look elsewhere. With its beautiful town centre and quiet, subdued atmosphere, this resort is perfect for families and those looking for a quiet holiday.

WE LIKE

  • Part of the Alta Valtellina ski area, great for beginners and intermediates with long easy sweeping runs
  • Very attractive medieval spa town, very upmarket Italian atmosphere
  • Good mountain restaurants and up market après-ski

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Limited challenging pistes for experts,
  • Crowds on Saturdays and Sundays as the locals descend upon this great town
  • Lift system seems to have seen better days
