Other Resorts

Germany is still viewed by many as the poor relation in Europe when it comes to skiing. It never quite took off here in the way that France and Austria did when it comes to attracting the skiing community. That said there is much here to experience and it is well worth considering for your next ski trip.

First of all there are a good selection of flights from the UK to Germany particularly from the low cost airlines so getting here shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. There is glacier skiing on offer and great mountain resorts. What it doesn't offer is the large lift linked ski areas of say France.

There is good variety however on offer here. Berchtesgaden, not far from Salzburg is a beautiful ski area. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is still very much the grand old dame of German ski resorts, it boasts the famous Kandahar downhill course. If its cosmopolitan glamour you are looking for then check out Oberstdorf.

How to Choose a Ski Area

First of all spend time before you book thinking about what you really need. If you are planning on only skiing hard for a few days then a large ski area lift pass may be such a waste of money. But for a two week ski holiday a large ski area may be required to keep you from getting bored. Check out all our ski area reviews to help you make the right decision.
