Where

Located in West Lapland, Ylläs (Pronounced 'U-las') is near the Swedish border. Ski Ylläs for some great slopes and for a chance to enjoy village life and skiing. Inside of two villages in Kolari, Akaslopmpolo and Ylläsjarvi, there is plenty of activity and sites to see while staying at the ski resort. On the slopes

If you ski Ylläs, there's 61 slopes there are trails and terrain differences for all ages that reach across a 462 metre vertical. It should be no surprise that the longest run across the country of Finland is located here at three kilometres in length. The resort has a nice combination of freestyle trails, pipes, and snowboarding trails to suit every skiers needs.

330km of the slopes are cross country with plenty of natural snow to give you an authentic experience with a backdrop of the perfect scenery. Of course, most people find that they enjoy the day on the slopes because with 30 lifts you can get enough of a break in between slopes to get your breath back and hope back onto the trails.

Off the slopes

When you are not busy on the slopes of the Ylläs ski resort there is plenty to do both indoors and outdoors. From snowmobile safaris where you may see anything from huskies and reindeer you can also try out the sport of snowshoe cross country. If this is not enough excitement you might try out a kick sleigh or go ice fishing to catch your own dinner.

If you need some time out of the cold you also may want to check out the indoor sports hall which contains wall climbing, spas, and gyms to warm up while still working out your muscles. Many people also enjoy playing basketball, football, and badminton or heading out on the town for a great dinner and drinks at a live music bar. Après-ski and relax time is excellent, and although not rowdy it is lively and safe to be out late in numerous bars and hotel bars across the village.

WE LIKE

  • Superb range of slopes for all levels including some great off piste
  • Excellent ski schools and family orientated activites
  • Great snow conditions means a wide range of winter sports and activities for all

WE DON'T LIKE

  • It's a full day transfer - but it's worth it when you get here!
  • Really cold in Jan and Feb - and winds can close down some of the slopes
  • Lack of a real centre to the village which woudl add to the atmosphere - but that's really picky
