Ski Jěstěd

This winter ski Jěstěd in the Czech Republic for a historic village resort close to Prague. Slopes for all levels and abilities as well as ski jumps and lots of cross country skiing. A great value for money resort in an up and coming ski country.

Where

Located in the Jizera Mountains in the Czech Republic, ski Jěstěd for a new challenge this winter. In just under an hour from Prague airport you can use the Liberec transportation system easily to reach the resort or you can choose to hire a car on your arrival.

On the slopes

With 14 slopes the Jěstěd ski resort offers the best skiing opportunities to beginners and intermediate skiers making it known as a great location for families. For adventurous teens and parents if you ski Jěstěd there's two black hills that comprise 11.1km of the ski area and there's ski instruction for those who would one day like to take on the challenging hills. With 9 lifts moving between the slopes is fairly simple. The ski season runs from December to March although a large portion of the snow is artificial due to the location of the mountains.

The largest vertical drop is 460m and the mountain peaks at 1000m making for a fantastic view if you take the longest run that's almost 3km. Snowboarders are also welcome and there is a half-pipe that many boarders enjoy experimenting on. Continually updating it's facilities and slopes, there is of course the world famous Ski jumping arena and stadium you can try out your flying skills at.

Off the slopes

Since the Jěstěd ski resort is not far from Prague for a true night or day out on holiday it may be well worth the 50min trip up to the major city. However, for those who want the best offerings near their accommodations there's plenty to offer.

There are over 80 restaurants to choose from in the local Jested ski resort area guaranteeing everyone can find something to their liking. Also, for those who want to add some sparks into their night after a day in the cold there are five disco's and many bars nearby to visit. Others who may be looking for more family orientated activities off the slope may enjoy the resort activities ranging from the bowling alleys, a luge course, and five local cinemas.

WE LIKE

  • It's close to Prague and has a reasonable number of slopes for all
  • Good snow throughout peak season and some great off piste
  • New lifts help to ensure no queues and no long waits to get up the hill

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Not the largest ski resort compared to France and Italy
  • A little limiting on the number and type of runs - a week will be a long time
  • If you want catered chalets and luxury apartments, this is not the resort despite some good places to stay
