Ski Nakiska

Ski Nakiska and you are 90kms west of Calgary with some superb snow and powder conditions almost guaranteed throughout the season. Top class facilities with Canadaian Rockies terrain for skiing & snowboarding at all levels.

Where

If you ski Nakiska you are located in the scenic Kananaskis Valley in Alberta. Allowing you to enjoy a top class modern complex that was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics, you are just an hour from Calgary for transfers (or to get away from the slopes for a day!).

On the slopes

Designed to host the 1988 Winter Olympic, ski Nakiska for consistent snow conditions even in the early part of the season - thanks to one of the best snowmaking systems in the world. With a lot of wide-open runs that are groomed to perfection, skiers and snowboarders have space and time on the piste making this a great place to learn.

The 61 slopes cater primarily for intermediate skiers, with plenty of wide-open Olympic-length trails for cruising and carving your way down the mountain. The beginner slopes are mainly at the bottom of the mountain, while experts should head for the top. Snowboarders will enjoy a terrain park and half-pipe. You also have the Canmore Nordic Centre for 70km+ of cross-country ski and biathlon trails.

Off the slopes

Accommodation for Nakiska is at two hotels just five minutes (2.5kms) from the slopes, while the Finish Line Lounge offers après-ski drinks, pub food, and live music in the lounge at weekends. There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy off the slopes, including sleigh rides, tobogganing, snowshoeing and ice-skating, and the hotels offer a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and exercise area.

WE LIKE

  • Great resort to learn to ski or board in with wide open runs. Also good for intermediates
  • Buoilt for the 1988 winter games it has amazing snowmaking facilities, so great snow coverage
  • A small and easy to navigate resort, great for families

WE DON'T LIKE

  • When it gets busy at weekends - it is busy as everyone wants some of the pistes!
  • Expert terrain is a bit limited - some good stuff but not enough for a full week to keep you happy
  • Nightlife not that lively, if thats what you want head into Banff
