Jerzens is a charming Tyrolean village where many people stay to ski Hochzeiger, the ski area which sits above it. It is famous for being the home ski area of Benni Raich, the champion ski racer!

Where?

Hochzeiger is located close to the entrance of the Pitztal Valley. The nearest airport is Innsbruck, 55km away. Other airports to consider include Zurich, 240 km away, Munich 265 km away and Salzburg 235 km away.

On the slopes

Hochzeiger has a good top height and is good for intermediates. There is not much steep terrain here. It is part of the Pitztal ski region that includes the Pitztal glacier and Rifflsee. The Pitztal glacier is the Tyrols highest glacier and is great for freeriders, it is open from September to May. Rifflsee is well worth  a visit not just for the skiing but also for the views from the mountain huts of the 3000m peaks of the Pitztal valley.

Off the slopes

There is some accommodation around the base station at Hochzeiger but most people normally stay in Jerzens. There is a 6km long floodlit toboggan run, sleigh rides, alpine curling, ice staking, an indoor and outdoor pool, spa, jacuzzi, sauna, bowling and sports hall so plenty to keep you busy!
