Ski Achensee in Tirol

This year ski Achensee in Tyrol and enjoy one of five resorts that offer some great snow conditions, hospitality and of course good pistes to ski and snowboard on. Austria's tirol region is world famous, so why not try it this winter yourself.

Where

If you ski Achensee in Tyrol you are close to both Innsbruck and Munich airports. Based around the Achensee lake you have five resorts in this ski area: Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau are around the lake at 930m elevation, Steinberg am Rofan is at an elevation of 1015m and Wiesing the lowest at 568m. So with airport transfers around 90 minutes it's simple to get here either by car or private transfer.

On the slopes

If you ski Achensee in Tyrol, there's 30 lifts that cover 24 pistes across the 5 resorts - the largest being Achenkirsch and Pertisau. There's 57km of total piste wqith an impressive 830m descent and a 6km long run. The slopes are best suited for intermediates and advanced skiers and boarders when you look at the Achensee area as a whole.

As well as the downhill or Alpine pistes, there's also a great terrain park for freestylers and a half pipe too. The slopes are all tree-lined which offers good prtection and a lot more interesting runs at all level. Beginners are well looked after and Austrian ski schools are known for their professionalism and great techniques with learners and children. Finally, there's a very impressive 201km of cross country skiing through the trees with Easy trails being around 81km, Intermediate trails of 58km and Difficult at 11 km. You can ski and snowboard in Austria safe in the knowledge you are likely to get good snow all season.

Off the slopes

This area is popular with families and Achensee in Tyrol has eight ski schools including special children's' courses, and plenty of other activities including toboggan runs and ice-skating rinks. There is good après ski as you would expect in Austria (without it being rowdy or noisy all night long), with over 50 restaurants and bars to choose from, plus some good shopping. There are also all the other expected winter sports like snowshoeing and ice skating.

WE LIKE

  • 830 m of vertical descent - this is best for intermediate/advanced skiers
  • Queue free skiing and boarding with tree-lined pistes
  • Austrian hospitality and great après-ski hotels in all villages without being rowdy

WE DON'T LIKE

  • A small resort with none of the expanse of pistes of other resorts
  • It is a quieter more relaxing ski destination
  • Experts and those wanting real challenges all day long will be disappointed
