On the slopes
There is a reason why many people choose to ski Winter Park over other popular Colorado destinations. It's because of a wide variety of slopes for all ski levels. With a total of 82 slopes there are more slopes for advanced and intermediate skiers but with 15 beginner slopes there are still plenty of options for all skill levels.
In fact, this resort is so large that the total pistes measure out to 3060 acres. There are 19 lifts to make the slopes accessible. Snowboarders and advanced skiers may also enjoy the 518m vertical drop and five ski parks. Winter Park also has the best moguls in North America making portions of the slopes difficult for anyone who does not at least have intermediate skiing skills.
Off the slopes
There is plenty to do in the area around the Winter Park area including nightlife and plenty of outdoor and indoor activities. Shops are available in most of local towns surrounding the resort as well as plenty of nightclubs, bars, and restaurants for those who want to enjoy the American style nightlife. If you are looking for more activities to liven things up off the slopes you may want to experiment with snowmobiling through the local forests, dog sled tours, ice skating, Sno-Cat tours, or inner tube racing. If you have a rented car you also may want consider a drive to Denver to the largest shopping mall in the area, the Cherry Creek Mall.
RESORT GOOD POINTS
- The best snowfall record of all Colorado's major resorts
- Superb beginner terrain and lots of groomed cruises
- Lots for experts, at least when conditions are right
|
RESORT BAD POINTS
- Lacking the range of shops and restaurants you might expect
- Town is a bus-ride from the slopes, and strung-out along the main road
- Village at the lift base is still very limited, and dead in the evening
