On the slopes

Ski Steamboat and you have something for everyone and you also get some the very best tree skiing and snowboarding anywhere in the world. With over 160 runs serviced by 20 lifts, and with 56 per cent of the terrain designated intermediate, there are plenty of sweeping groomed runs to enjoy. Beginners will find a beginners-only area and lift, while advanced skiers will enjoy some challenging mogul fields. Boarders should head to the Bashor Terrain Park, which has a sound system, a large bowl, over a dozen rails, and the USA's longest super-pipe.

Off the slopes

Hotels and condominiums are to be found either slope-side at Steamboat, or else in the nearby town, which is just a short walk or shuttle ride away. The town has retained much of its old Western charm, and in addition to the 75+ restaurants and bars you get a great range of shops, boutiques, galleries and museums. If you want a break from skiing, you can enjoy the local mineral hot springs, hot-air ballooning, sleigh rides, horseback riding, or snowmobile tours. The town atmosphere is excellent and the town itself really does offer something for everyone.

WE LIKE

  • Excellent easy runs and some great intermediate terrain
  • Good snow record and snowsure ski resort
  • Plenty of slope-side lodging so some ski in ski out

WE DON'T LIKE

  • The town is a short drive from the slopes
  • Good intermediates to experts will struggle with enough challenges over a week
  • Gets really really cold in the winter and on slopes out of the sun - bring your thermals!
