Ski snowmass and you are on the doorstep of Aspen. With five times more skiing acreage than their more famous neighbour, come to Snowmass and experience skiing and snowboarding this winter. All resorts in the area are easily reached via Denver airport too.
Where
Ski Snowmass if the actual skiing is more important than the name of the resort - as whilst close to Apsen, it has it's own village at the foot of the slopes. Just a few miles from Aspen, Snowmass has five times more skiing, and the highest vertical in the US. You can reach it via Denver, or take a flight right into Aspen for a really quick transfer to the resort.

On the slopes
With the highest skiing in North America, ski holidays in Snowmass are spread across three mountains, with only one, Aspen Mountain, accessible from the town, via the Silver Queen gondola. Aspen Mountain is best for intermediates, Aspen Highlands for advanced skiers, and Buttermilk the place for beginners to get their confidence. Boarders were finally welcomed here in 2001, and should head to Buttermilk, which has a huge half-pipe and terrain park, or Aspen Mountain, which has a fun park. The legendary intermediate run - Big Burn - is here. That's enough reasons to head out here for your holidays on it's own!
Off the slopes
Snowmass prides itself on convenience - the first order of the day here. More then 90% of the accommodation is ski in-ski out. There is also a good choice of bars and restaurants, and some good shopping. If you like to eat on the slopes, the Sundeck restaurant at Aspen Mountain or Cloud Nine at Highlands are popular choices, while in town the Red Onion bar is where many long evenings begin, while 70s night at Bar Aspen is the biggest party in town.
WE LIKE
- Big, varied mountain with a vertical of 1340m/4,400ft - the biggest in the US
- Aspen's three mountains also accessible by frequent free bus
- Uncrowded slopes and world class terrain make this one not to miss
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- For non-skiers, you have to jump on the bus to get to Aspen town itslef
- Snowmass 'village' offers little shopping and nightlife, though the new Base Village being built should improve things
- In the mid-winter - it get's really cold - at the top up to -35 so make sure you have all the necessaries
