On the slopes

Ski holidays in Park City have changed dramatically since the 2002 Winter Olympics. The upgrades turned this into one of the biggest ski areas in the USA, with over 3,300 acres of terrain spread across eight peaks. The light, dry powder delights skiers and boarders alike, and the latter will be even more pleased to discover the CIA terrain park, which has an amazing 12 rails, tabletops, kickers, jibs and a half-pipe with a huge sound system.

Off the slopes

Despite being in Mormon Utah, ski Park City and you get a lively party town with a good après-ski scene. There's plenty of accommodation to suit all price ranges, and you'll find a good selection of restaurants including Hungry Moose and Wasatch Brew Pub. Those who like to splurge on dinner will find the Cabin in the Grand Summit Hotel offers high-quality seafood and steaks, but the place to be is Park City, where the choice of bars and restaurants is extensive.

RESORT GOOD POINTS

  • Entertaining, historic Main Street, convenient for slopes
  • Well maintained slopes, with lots of snowmaking
  • Good lift system, with four six-packs

RESORT BAD POINTS

  • Away from Main street, town is an enormous (still expanding) sprawl - inconvenient as well as charmless
  • The blue and black runs tend to be rather short
  • Most lodgings involve driving or bussing to Main Street and slopes
