Ski Winter Park

Ski Winter Park to be amongst a fairly new and modern ski resort that's the closest to Denver. With a wide range of skiing and snowboarding in this Colorado playground, all levels can enjoy Winterpark's 120km of piste - especially those who enjoy moguls.

Where

If you ski Winter Park you are in Colorado right in the heart of the Rockie Mountains and you'll be at high altitude for this winter holiday! The Winter Park ski resort is off Highway 40 that leads into a remote Valley for a true mountain holiday. Approximately an hour and a half from the Denver airport you will need to rent a car to get here - but it definitely worth it.

On the slopes

There is a reason why many people choose to ski Winter Park over other popular Colorado destinations. It's because of a wide variety of slopes for all ski levels. With a total of 143 named trails there's more slopes for advanced and intermediate skiers but with 30 beginner's pistes there is plenty of options for all skill levels.

In fact, this resort is so large that the total pistes measure out to 3060 acres. There are 26 lifts to make the slopes accessible. Snowboarders and advanced skiers may also enjoy the 518m vertical drop and five ski parks. Winter Park also has the best moguls in North America making portions of the slopes difficult for anyone who does not at least have intermediate skiing skills.

Off the slopes

There is plenty to do in the area around the Winter Park area including nightlife and plenty of outdoor and indoor activities. Shops are available in most of local towns surrounding the resort as well as plenty of nightclubs, bars, and restaurants for those who want to enjoy the American style nightlife. If you are looking for more activities to liven things up off the slopes you may want to experiment with snowmobiling through the local forests, dog sled tours, ice skating, Sno-Cat tours, or inner tube racing. If you have a rented car you also may want consider a drive to Denver to the largest shopping mall in the area, the Cherry Creek Mall.

WE LIKE

  • The best snowfall record of all Colorado's major resorts, 9m of light dry colorado snow every season! Often voted the most genuine of colorados resorts
  • 3 big mountains and bowl to ski in, good for intermediates and those who love their moguls but beginner terrain is limited
  • Money now pouring into the resort so you can be guaranteed modern facilities and amenities

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Lacking the range of shops and restaurants you might expect
  • Town is 1.5 miles away from the resort and strung-out along the main road
  • Village at the lift base is still very limited, and dead in the evening
