Ski Steamboat

Ski Steamboat and enjoy it's reputation for being the friendly ski resort. Ski and snowboard in Colorado's North West area across 5 different mountains with wide groomed trails and get the amenities of one of America's biggest ski destinations. Perfect for families.

Where

Located in Northwest Colorado, Steamboat is accessible from Denver International Airport or better still (and a lot closer) Eagle County aiirport. You can sit back and relax as the shuttle takes you through stunning scenery to the resort, three hours drive away. Once there you'll find 165 trails spread over almost 3000 acres, covered in Steamboat's famous 'champagne powder'.

On the slopes

Ski Steamboat and you have something for everyone and you also get some the very best tree skiing and snowboarding anywhere in the world. With over 160 runs serviced by 20 lifts, and with 56 per cent of the terrain designated intermediate, there are plenty of sweeping groomed runs to enjoy. Beginners will find a beginners-only area and lift, while advanced skiers will enjoy some challenging mogul fields. Boarders should head to the Bashor Terrain Park, which has a sound system, a large bowl, over a dozen rails, and the USA's longest super-pipe.

Off the slopes

Hotels and condominiums are to be found either slope-side at Steamboat, or else in the nearby town, which is just a short walk or shuttle ride away. The town has retained much of its old Western charm, and in addition to the 75+ restaurants and bars you get a great range of shops, boutiques, galleries and museums. If you want a break from skiing, you can enjoy the local mineral hot springs, hot-air ballooning, sleigh rides, horseback riding, or snowmobile tours. The town atmosphere is excellent and the town itself really does offer something for everyone.

WE LIKE

  • Excellent easy runs and some great intermediate terrain, great for families and beginners. Ski in ski out accomodation, popular also with families
  • Good snow record and snowsure resort, 370" of snow falls each year, great dry fluffy champagne snow!
  • Amazing tree skiing!

WE DON'T LIKE

  • The town is a short drive from the slopes, so be preapred to commute!
  • Good intermediates to experts will struggle with enough challenges over a week, there is a shortage here of long steeps
  • Gets really really cold in the winter and on slopes out of the sun - bring your thermals!
