Ski Copper Mountain and get a purpose-built car-free resort in Colorado. Perfect for families, the skiing and snowboarding is great for all abilities and nicely defined on the mountain. It's also a relatively short ski transfer of around 90 minutes from Denver airport.

Where

Ski Copper Mountain and you will get a ski resort that has had $400m spent on building this purpose-built ski resort just 20 miles east of Vail. Ski holidays in Copper Mountain have just a 90 minute airport transfer time from Denver or an hour from Eagle County, so you can get on the piste quickly. With some good skiing and some great snowboarding for all levels, you also get some ski in-ski out too.

On the slopes

Perfect for all levels of skiers and boarders, ski Copper Mountain and you are divided into separate runs for different levels and there's a great snow record for the whole ski area. The off-piste Copper Bowl and Spaulding Bowls offer unbelievable powder and great natural terrain for jumps and lips, as do the two snowparks for boarders. The Super Bee chair lift is a monster - making light work of queues to whisk you to the summit in about 8 minutes. Finally, there's great ski lessons and tuition available for all.

Ski area

If you ski Copper Mountain you are in the US State of Colorado.

Off the slopes

As a car free town, ski holidays in Copper Mountain are great for the family with the usual winter activities like ice skating and sleigh rides. There's a reasonable apres ski scene with some nice bars and cafe's - but don't come here if you are a party animal. Above all you get value for money here, with other resorts close by for variety if you are feeling a little bored. Families also like the ski-in ski out convenience and the ski lessons.

WE LIKE

  • Convenient purpose-built resort in the heart of Colorado, only a 90 minute drive from Denver International airport
  • Fair-sized mountain, with good runs for all abilities, slopes are zoned into beginner, intermediate and expert areas. 710 +cm annual snowfall
  • There's few queues on weekdays for lifts and the pistes relatively empty. Resort has now been ear marked for huge investment

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Can be long lift queues at weekends as locals all queue up to get up the mountain
  • Village still limited and lacks a vibrant night life, although this will change with promise of future investment
  • Risk of altitude sickness with top of mountain heading towards 4000m
