On the slopes
The Alpine Meadows ski resort is above 1500m, and with 495 inches (1,257 cm) of snow per year and pistes above 2500 metres, skiing and snowboarding is assured throughout the season. Ski Alpine Meadows as it's famous for off-piste terrain and "adventure zones," making it popular with advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. While experts and intermediates will be keen to try its bowls, chutes, trees and backcountry, there's little for beginners. Boarders will find good boarding and a Snow Park.
Off the slopes
Alpine Meadows resort offers three bars, while Tahoe City has a community feel, with plenty of dining options and live jazz. Lunch options include Alpine Meadows base lodge, the Chalet restaurant at the front of the mountain and the base of Sherwood Chair. There are plenty of options for accommodation locally, although there are no lodgings in Alpine Meadows itself - Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe have inns, hotels, condos and lodges to choose from..
WE LIKE
- A small resort with excellent conditions for all levels
- Great for powder when it does arrive - worth coming mid season to benefit from average 10m snowfall a year
- Uncrowded pistes and very few lift queues
|
WE DON'T LIKE
- Absolute beginners may struggle as Greens are not the simplest
- Pistes - whilst uncrowded - got a lot busier towards the bottom of runs with lessons
- Nightlife restricted a bit in resort, and Lake Tahoe about 6 miles away
