On the slopes
The St Moritz ski resort offers something for all skiers. Beginners should start at the nursery slopes at Corviglia, reached by funicular, or Celerina, while intermediates will enjoy the long open runs, such as the 6km Hahensee long run from Corvatsch to St Moritz Bad. Advanced skiers will enjoy the black runs at Diavolezza, the moguls at Lagalb, and the off-piste challenges at Piz Noir. There's plenty for boarders, with great piste and a terrain park in Corviglia.
Ski area :
If you ski St Moritz you are in the Swiss ski region of Graubünden.
Off the slopes
You will find that ski holidays in St Moritz are split into two areas - Dorf, where you'll find the smart hotels and shops, and Bad, which is somewhat quieter. At last count there were 74 restaurants in the resort - lots of choice, but few of them are cheap - expect to pay prices similar to London or Paris. Jöhri's Talvo, a Relais & Chateaux restaurant, is highly recommended. If you fancy a day away from the slopes you'll find the world famous Cresta run, polo, golf, even cricket!
RESORT GOOD POINTS
- Wonderful panoramic scenery in a "Best of the Alps" resort
- High, and fairly snow-sure ensures you great snow throughout the season
- Off-slope activities second to none
|
RESORT BAD POINTS
- Expensive and soemtimes exclusive - not the prettiest alpine village
- A sizeable town, with little traditional Alpine character and some hideous block building
- Runs on home mountain all fairly easy and most lacking variety
