Ski Mürren in Switzerland and you'll be enjoying one of the original ski resorts developed by the British in the 1920s. Car free and with stunning Swiss Alps surroundings, skiing and snowboarding here is superb.

Where?

Renowned for its scenery, why not ski Mürren and be with like-minded skiers and boarders that like a challenge? Advanced skiers visit for the black runs down from the Schilthorn and great off-piste at Blumental - less advanced skiers can still enjoy themselves by visiting the slopes at nearby Wengen and Grindelwald. The transfer from the airport is good - making for stress-free days.

On the slopes

Because it's linked with Wengen and Grindelwald, Mürren provides for great ski holidays and all levels of skiers and boarders are catered for. Indeed, the Jungfrau region has a total of 200kms of pistes, 53kms of them at Mürren. The lifts are excellent, carrying up to 9,100 people per hour, and you really should visit the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant - it sits at 2970m, and is reputed to offer views of 200 mountains. Snowboarders will enjoy Murren's terrain park and half-pipe.

Ski area

If you ski Mürren you are in the Swiss ski region of Jungfrau.

Off the slopes

Car free, and blessed with stunning scenery, Mürren ski holidays are a traditional high altitude Swiss mountain village experience. You can choose between picturesque hotels, chalets and apartments at various prices and comfort levels, and you'll find a range of restaurants available - choose between traditional Swiss cuisine, or international favourites like pizza.

There are also plenty of bars and clubs to keep you busy until late. Other activities include an outdoor ice-rink for curling and skating and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

WE LIKE

  • Small and charming, traditional Swiss Alps village, with 'traffic-free' centre, often inaccessible to vehicles.
  • Good for intermediates and experts who want to go off piste.
  • Part of the Jungfrau ski area, with access to Wengen and Grindelwald.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Extent of local pistes very limited for all levels, if you stay for more than a few days you will need to access the Jungfrau area.
  • Not easy to fly from the UK to Berne making this a difficult resort to access.
  • Quiet, limited nightlife for those looking to party all night.
