Ski Grindelwald

Why not ski Grindelwald and enjoy the picturesque village, and the imposing north faces of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau in Switzerland. Skiing & snowboarding about an hour from Berne airport makes it great for weekends.

Where

Ski Grindelwald for a classic Swiss skiing experience, with its rustic ambience, traditional cog railway, and imposing mountains. There's extensive skiing and snowboarding, with direct links to the Wengen ski area at Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen, and Mürren also available on the same lift pass. Access is good with Berne just 70Km away and of course Geneva.

On the slopes

Ski Grindelwald for ski holidays that are beginner-friendly, with English-speaking Ski Schools, nursery slopes just above Grindelwald, and a 'slow speed zone'. Intermediates can enjoy the 213kms of the Jungfrau area, with a choice of long, cruising runs, such as the 8km run from Oberjoch down to Grindelwald ski resort, or more challenging routes down the Kleine Scheidegg mountain. Experts can test themselves on the famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill piste, or the fearsome Black Rock run from the base of the Eiger.

Ski area :

If you ski Grindelwald you are in the Swiss ski region of Bernese Oberland and the ski area of Jungfrau along with the following resorts: jungfrau

Off the slopes

Grindelwald offers numerous restaurants, serving both traditional and international dishes - why not try some Fondue, or stop at the popular Spinne restaurant? There's also a great collection of lively cafés and bars, with the Espresso bar and the Gepsi bar among the favourites. Away from the slopes there's a fantastic range of activities to choose from including bowling, a cinema, skidoo, parapenting, ice skating, snowshoeing, and of course some great shopping.

WE LIKE

  • Beautiful resort dramatically set in magnificent scenery, directly beneath the towering north face of the Eiger
  • Perfect for intermediates, lots of long, gentle runs and steeper runs to progress to. Linked to Wengen and Murren
  • Fair amount to do off the slopes, including splendid walks and shopping

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Main slopes accessed by a painfully slow, queue-prone (especially at weekends) gondola or by slow trains
  • Few challenging pistes for experts - although the powder is awesome if you are there first!
  • Snow cover on the lower slopes can be unreliable
