On the slopes
Ski holidays in Fórmigal are best for beginners and intermediates - there are four green runs, 13 blues and 24 reds. Advanced skiers can go off piste at neighbouring Candanchú, which has steep, tough blacks to rival the hardest Alpine slopes. There's also a half-pipe for snowboarders, a slalom course, and the chance to try snowcatting or heli-skiing. Beginners will also find a ski school with over 50 instructors, so this is a good, friendly place to cut your teeth.

Off the slopes
Good, cheap food and drink are the order of the day in Fórmigal, with plenty of bars and restaurants both on and off-piste. A good option for those on a budget is the fixed price "menu del dia", while if you hunger for more traditional Alpine fare, head for Restaurante Gemsbock. This being Spain, you can count on a lively après ski scene until the small hours. Accommodation options in and around the village include a range of hotels and self-catering apartments.
