For something a little different, ski Slovenia and enjoy any one of a number of skiing and snowboarding resorts that offer a warm welcome on some unspoilt and crowd-free slopes in Eastern Europe. If you ski Slovenia you get lots of well-groomed pistes and good lift coverage, it has become a firm family favourite. If you are an expert skier head towards the two larger sk resorts that we cover in the next paragraph.
In fact there are two very well known ski resorts when you ski Slovenia - Kranjska Gora and Maribor Pohorje. They host an annual World Cup Men's slalom & Giant Slalom and an annual World Cup women's slalom & Giant slalom respectively. Some great pistes for everyone to enjoy and the prices have not caught up with the Alps as of yet!
Who will enjoy?
If you ski Slovenia, you will soon find that there are a lot of families here. The great prices and crowd-free slopes draw in families to enjoy a slightly less manic ski holiday than some French or Austrian resorts offer. If you take into account also the cross country skiing and the off-piste snow activities, there's no reason why anyone shoudl feel left wih nothing to do in Slovenian ski resorts.
How many destinations?
We've chosen to focus on the 6 key ski resorts that most skiers and boarders may want to visit. When you ski Slovenia, you do not have the massive pistes with hundreds of kilometers of slopes at your fingertips, but you do get some great runs and for families, lots of beginner and intermediate slopes and a few expet black runs. The Bohinj ski area has 5 great resorts within a single ski pass, including the Kranjska Gora ski resort mentioned above.
Accommodation?
Slovenia offer a complete range of accommodation from good to cheap and budget self accommodation. Whether it's a hotel or traditional Slovenian cabins, a ski holiday in Slovenia may well open your eyes to something further afield than Frnace or Italy this winter.
