Ski Vogel

Why not ski Vogel for a relaxing peaceful holiday with some suprisingly good skiing and boarding for beginners and intermediates. Not the most impressive slopes, but the sights of the ski resort and surrounding mountains are picture postcard!

Where

Part of the Triglav National Park in Slovenia, ski Vogel and you are near the Bohinj Lake which affords for its wonderful scenic views. Best of all you are part of the Bohinj ski area opening up 5 other ski resorts for you on the same lift pass - although they are not all interconnected across the mountains. The local airport is about an hour away so you will have to consider hiring a car or taking a shuttle into the Vogel ski resort.

On the slopes

The slopes are not the most stunning or demanding when you ski Vogel, which is why most people come to the Bohinj ski resort for the scenery and not the sporting challenge. With seven beginner slopes, five intermediate slopes, and no expert slopes the Vogel ski resort can be an excellent place for children and first time skiers to learn.

Due to the fact there are only 18km of pistes the three lifts are suitable for transport along the gentle sloping mountains. With a vertical drop of 1231km and one snow park there is plenty of room on the slopes for snowboarders as well. Many people take advantage of the meandering slopes to slow down and take a look at the Lake down below in its full glory. Part of the charm of a trip down the mountain is the feeling of peaceful isolation at the top altitude of the mountain at 1800m that is hard to find at any other major Slovenian ski resort.

Ski area :

If you ski Vogel, you are also in the ski region of Bohinj along with the following resorts; bohinj.

Off the slopes

Most of the charm of the Vogel ski resort is its isolation from the outside world as there are just a few hotels, houses, and cabins around the outer area of the Vogel ski resort and the Lake. Therefore, there is not a lot of entertainment outside of the slopes which can be frustrating for those who quickly grow tired of the thrill of pretty views.

However, a trek around the lake and ice fishing are two activities that many people enjoy on the island so if you can be satisfied on a holiday with just the hotel amenities and the natural wildlife the resort will work out fine.

WE LIKE

  • Amazing scenery and a picture postcard place to ski and board
  • Suprisingly good terrain park for freestylers
  • English is spoken everywhere - so n oneed to brush up on your Slovenian!

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Make sure you avoid National holidays in Slovenia - the pistes and lifts get mobbed
  • The only way up is the Gondola so if you catch the wrong time, you can have a bit of a wait
  • Almost no expert or challenging runs
