Ski Niseko

Ski Niseko and thanks to nature, the four ski resort areas offer skiing zones that fit all levels of expertise as well as plenty of activities from shopping to restaurants and bars for those who enjoy taking some time off from the slopes.

Where

Located in the northern island of Hokkaido, if you ski Niseko and get four resorts for the price of one! In fact they are often considered as one, since many people visit multiple zones throughout a day each of which, caters to English speaking people. The Niseko ski resorts offer almost 50kms of piste made up of the Miowa zone (the lesser visited of the four), the Annapuri which experiences the most temperate weather, the Higashiyama that is best known to tourists, and the Hirafu which is the most popular due to its foreign investor interests.

On the slopes

SKi Niseko and get great accessibility thanks to lifts, ski busses, and back country courses between the four resorts. Due to the fact that the four regions differ greatly all levels of difficulty are represented in the area and there is a wide variety of options from downhill skiing to cross country to moguls to snowboarding. All areas experience a high level of snow which results in most of the courses being open throughout the ski season of Japan. For advanced and experts, head towards the Strawberry Fields area in the Hirafu section for the best challenges.

Off the slopes

The best place to experience the nightlife of the Niseka ski resorts is the base of Hirafu Mountain with its bars, hotels, pensions, and overwhelming amount of restaurants. There are also many of family owned shops and cafes that will delight even the most refined guests with their quaint charm amidst a major tourist location.

Nightlife continues late into the next morning for those who want to party and disco clubs are found throughout all the resort areas for those who want to cut loose and lighten up while on vacation. Most of the Niseko ski resort areas also offer childcare and health gyms as well for people who want a break from skiing but still want to stay active.

WE LIKE

  • Great terrain at all levels and some amazing tree-lined runs if that's your thing!
  • You get free access for powder off piste - perfect because there's usually lots of it
  • Learners will enjoy the slopes being close to the resort along with English speaking instructors

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Sometimes suffers from lack of sun - so can get really cold - but that's perfect to keep the snow conditions and powder
  • No focus in Niseko as a resort - but it's a minro point as the culture and experience is excellent
  • travel quite complex unless you give yourself over to one of the operators
