Ski Veneto, Italy

  

    Want to Ski Veneto ski region in Italy? Most people associate Venice with water, gondolas, stunning architecture and culture, and it is all those things in abundance, but it's also a great ski and snowboard destination. It's possible to access the huge Dolomiti Superski area here, but there are plenty of local slopes to enjoy too.

    Included in this ski region are the following ski resorts :


    Cortina D'Ampezzo, venue of the Olympic Games in 1956 and the largest resort in the ski Veneto ski area, has 140km of runs to explore, mainly for intermediate skiers. There are good nursery slopes and several black runs in the area too. Guided off piste skiing is also available to entertain the expert skier. Much of the area is also accessible to snowboarders, who have a snowpark, and the option of lessons at the ski school. From December to March, Cortina is also a good place for experienced ice climbers.

    Other resorts in the Veneto ski area are Marmolato, famed for 'Gigantissimo', the longest slalom run in the world, and Civetta with its excellent snow record. There are 80 km of pistes, with a good number of these green and red runs. For experts there are 2 km of runs and good cross country trails.

    With one of the most interesting and historic cities on the doorstep of this ski area, there'll be plenty to occupy you off the slopes. There is good quality shopping and local cuisine to sample throughout all the resorts in this area too.

    In terms of transfers, Treviso and Venice have the nearest airports, and it will take 2-2 hours to reach the ski area. Although some parts of Veneto are at a lower altitude, and thus less snow sure than others, the ski season still runs from December to April so there's plenty of time to visit one of Italy's most interesting winter sports areas.
