If you want to ski or snowboard in a scenic, pretty location that is well priced, Gressoney could be a good option. And you get the whole Monterosa ski area to explore as well.

Where

To the west of the Monte Rosa, one of Europes highest mountains, lies the Gressoney Valley. The resorts of Gressoney, Champoluc and Alagna are located here with Gressoney positioned right in the centre. Gressoney itself has the most spectacular views of Mont Blanc, the Monte Rosa glacier, the Matterhorn and Gran Paradiso. So you wont go short here on spectacular scenery! The nearest international airport is Turin, with  a transfer time of approximately 1 and 3/4 hours.

On the slopes

The Gressoney Valley has several ski areas including Weissmatten, Saint Jean, La Trinite and Stafal. Beginners should head to La Trinite and Stafal where you will find a couple of nursery slopes. As you get more confident head to the top of the Punta Jolanda chairlift where you will find some lovely easy blues. This area is great for intermediates with lovely long cruisy runs. Experts should look for the great off piste at Alagna.

Off the slopes

Apres ski is a somewhat quiet affair here , Saint Jean is the liveliest village with a nightclub and a handful of bars. But overall this is a place to come and ski hard and then take it easy at night. The hotels in Gressoney are overall pretty good value and there is some good flexible accommodation here. There is an ice rink, snowshoeing, heli tours and a good toboggan run. The hotel Jolanda Sport has a good pool and wellness centre.
