Ski Kronplatz

Ski Kronplatz / Plan de Corones for an area that's cold enough to provide for plenty of skiing and snowboarding opportunities for all skill levels but with a sunny, cheery, atmosphere in a village with après ski fun.

Where

Located in the South Tyrol region of Italy, ski Kronplatz and you are in the valley of the Kronplatz Mountain - Plan de Corones - which reaches 2,275m into the sky and can be seen clearly for its white peak throughout the region. Given the fact the region is generally sunny it provides a nice escape with smells reminiscent of the tropics even on a ski holiday.

On the slopes

There are slopes for all skill levels when you choose to ski Kronplatz and given that there is approximately 1,200km of piste slopes throughout the connected ski area as well as over 100km of cross country slopes you are spoilt. For the most part the slopes are free of trees and with 31 lifts transportation is easy from slope to slope.

Certain routes of the Kronplatz ski resort have even been used in the World Cup events that can be traced for rambunctious holiday skiers as well. The area also boosts a snowpark for snowboarders as well as a half-pipe for those who want to fine tune the sport and night skiing is easy to enjoy if you want to spend a day on the numerous slopes as many are illuminated with flood lights.

Off the slopes

There are plenty of activities to rival the many slopes in the après ski atmosphere of the Kronplatz ski resort as there are dozens of pubs, bars, and nightclubs that can finish off the night for those who want to cut loose on their ski holiday. The local village area of Kronplatz ski resort also boosts many restaurants with the local South Tyrolean spicy cuisine that will remind you more of a tropical vacation than a ski holiday.

With the tropics in mind, the sunny atmosphere of the Village provides for a spacious spa area that includes four indoor pools and one outside pool as well as numerous saunas and steam baths. Those looking for more sporty options may also want to indulge in snowshoe hikes and tours as well as ice skating.

WE LIKE

  • The village is linked to the huge Plan de Corones mountain
  • The gondola system is second to no resort - perfect for long days skiing or boarding
  • Lots of nice wide runs all of which have snow cannon cover should it be needed

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Pistes can get really crowded as this is a big resort for German and Italian skiers and boarders
  • Village although nice - doesn't have a natural centre and so loses a bit of atmosphere
  • Not the best place to come if you want to ski hard and party hard - limited aprés ski
