Corvara

For those who want to party while on holiday and take in the slopes the Corvara ski resort is one of the largest villages in the Dolomiti Superski Area for entertainment. Our resort guide certainly includes plenty of nightclubs, bars, and restaurants. The ski area is referred to as the Alta Badia.

Where?

Located in the Alta Badia area of the beautiful Dolomiti Superski Area in Italy, the Corvara ski resort provides mostly intermediate trails and beginner trails although it is in close proximity to over a dozen more resorts. It can be reached via a one hour drive from the Bolzano Airport or by the railway.

WE LIKE

  • Fantastic resort for beginners and intermediates, wide pistes and wooded cruisey runs, great for building confidence
  • Dolimiti ski area is one the world's leading ski areas - so you won't get bored or not be challenged, there are 668 pistes to explore!
  • Traditional village dating back to 12th Century - you get a sophisticated and warm welcome. Lively restaurants and bars offering some of the best food in the region.

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Area is so spread out so different levels of skiers/boarders may need to split up
  • Can get crowded in February and during Carnival when it gets manically busy
  • Resort itself is limiting for the expert or those who want to go off piste. Not a resort for those who love powder, the dry climate here ruins that option!

On the Slopes

Although Corvara could be described as being mostly for intermediate skiers, its location in the Dolomiti Superski Area provides visitors on holiday with access to over a dozen more resorts with over 530 pistes in total for all levels. For those who do not want to venture too far away from the Corvara ski resort the 130km of pisted runs still offer a great deal of variety.

There are 85 slopes for all levels of skiers although only four of these match expert levels and 40km of cross country trails as well. Snowboarding is also popular at the Corvara ski resort so you may want to bring your board along for the skidoos and torch light descents.

Ski Area

If you ski Corvara you are also in the ski region of Dolomiti Superski.

Off the Slopes

The Corvara ski resort is actually one of the largest villages in the Dolomiti Superski Area which provides for a rambunctious nightlife if you can muster any energy after leaving the slopes. With twenty different restaurants offering a number of local and traditional cuisines including classic Italy and French flavour as well as 20 bars there is plenty to check out and see after hours.

For those with a lot of energy and seeking an active holiday there are also three nightclubs well worth checking out that tend to draw resort visitors from all over the Dolomiti area. Additionally, there is an ice rink, snowshoe trails, and walking trails for those who need family alternatives to the party nightlife of the Corvara ski resort. The area is also known for its wide and exclusive varieties of wine and beer choices.

Who's it Best For?

Great for beginners and intermediates We also think foodies will  love it here as it has some of the best restaurants in the region.

Corvara isn't that well visited by Brits at the moment but that is a shame as its a good little resort and if you want good food and a great hotel you have come to the right place. It also has amazing mountain restaurants so foodies will love it here.

There is a good range of hotels and apartments here but despite it being the largest village in the Alta Badia region there arent a great deal of catered chalets here. In fact a lot of British tour operators don't come here but opt instead for Selva Gardena instead. So great if you want to get away from other Brits but your choice of chalet accommodation may be limited.

Where to Look For a Chalet

The resort does tend to be dominated by really good hotels and apartments so if you were looking for a catered chalet then do check these out as well. La Perla for example has a Mitchelin starred restaurant and families should also check out Hotel Posta Zirm which has a good family suite.

There are chalets here but you will need to search around. You may want to check Colletts Mountain Holidays for example who have a number of chalet hotels on offer. One is in Badia 6km from Corvara, two are in Corvara itself.

CHALETS

Apartments have become increasingly popular over the years. Often a little cheaper than chalets and hotels they represent good value for money. In addition many of the newer apartment blocks offer great facilities including swimming pools and spas.

Corvara isn't that well visited by Brits but its great if you love your food! Its also got some great hotels and apartments, it's catered chalets that are few and far between here.

So do check out the hotels as well as the apartments. Families for example should look at Hotel Posta Zirm which has a good attic suite that is great for families. 500m from nearby Colfosco is Residence Vila which has good, well equipped apartments.

Are Apartments Really Such a Good Idea?

Well they can represent good value for money compared to chalets and hotels. In addition if you are travelling with other families or even with a large ski party booking apartments can give you more space and privacy than you may get in one large chalet.

Corvara is a beautiful little town that isn't that well visited by Brits. But that's a shame as the hotels and restaurants are very good and the mountain restaurants are really exceptional. So if you are looking for a hotel based ski holiday you have come to the right place.

Corvara has a good range of hotels and apartments. The only real disappointment is the lack of catered ski chalets but they have never really taken off in the same way in Italy as they have in France.

What Kind of Hotels are Available in Corvara?

For Mitchelin starred food check out La Perla and Hotel Posta Zirm which also has a good spa. Foodies will also love Hotel Sassongher and Sporthotel Panorama. A good 3* hotel in Corvara is Hotel Gran Ciasa.

It may also be worth checking out neighbouring Colfosco but to be honest there is a great choice of hotels in Coravara itself. The food is exceptional and many of the hotels are still in family hands.
