French ski enthusiasts often ski Aosta Valley ski area, or at least part of it. La Thuile is linked with the French resort of La Rosiere, so a visit to either resort will open up both the Aosta Valley and L'Espace San Bernardo ski areas.
If you ski Aosta Valley you'll find that La Thuile is an interesting mix of a traditional mountain village and a modern ski complex. 150km of pistes, divided well between the different ability levels, await visitors here. There are also terrain parks for snowboarders and cross country skiing, with 300 snow cannons ensuring the whole ski area is covered if needed.
Elsewhere in the Aosta valley ski area, you'll find the stunning Monterosa mountain range and the resort of Gressoney. Gressoney is at the centre of the three resorts that make up the Monterosa range, and gives easy access to 180km of slopes. These slopes include high altitude skiing on the glacier, and 30km of cross country trails. The downhill runs are mainly red, though there are 5 good black runs for experts, and a ski school/13 blue runs for beginners.
Adding to the choice, are the other resorts in the valley that include Courmayeur, Breuil-Cervinia, and Pila. Each resort has around 100 km of pistes, an excellent lift system, and a variety of other activities on offer.
Across the ski area there's also a range of good quality accommodation, smart shops, cozy bars, and traditional Italian restaurants. If all this adds up to your kind of winter holiday, then a transfer from Geneva airport will get you here in around 2 hours.
