Ski Resorts in Greece

Greece is one of those holiday destinations that you associate with sun, sun and more sun. In the range of mountains which forms the Greek border with Macedonia, however, you will find some great skiing in the mountain resorts. Greece is full of secrets, and one of its best kept is its quality ski resorts and runs. These glorious slopes are sadly neglected by most, and mention skiing in Greece to most Brits and they will think you have had one too many!

These are quality resorts however, which have excellent snow, the famed Greek hospitality and some of the cheapest skiing available anywhere. Greece has long been a favourite summer destination of those from the Balkan states, and they are now cottoning on to how great it is in the winter too. The Americans are starting to arrive here as well, and the way things are going the secret could soon become very public knowledge.

What Is The Atmosphere Like?

The Greeks love life and will celebrate anything. The atmosphere from the summer resorts spreads up the mountains and you will be treated like an old friend from the moment you arrive. The apres ski, food and drink is a real plus to taking a ski holiday here.

Who Will Enjoy It?

The Greeks are very family orientated, and every resort caters for all ages. There are slopes suitable for absolute beginner's right up to those who are adept enough to face a real challenge. The food and drink, as you would expect, is unsurpassed and there is evening entertainment to give you a great night after a hard day on the slopes.

How Many Resorts Are There?

Overall there are 22 ski resorts in Greece, and they all offer something special. The largest resorts, such as Vassilitsa and Seli have the greatest choice of slopes, most lifts, ski schools and equipment hire.

Staying in Greece

Some accommodations in the Greek ski resorts are pretty basic, but are always clean and cosy and perfect to relax after a long and energetic day. Some of the resorts only have one or two hotels, so you know you aren't going to have to fight for a good spot on the slopes. Hotels and guest houses are the main accommodations on offer, and some, like Vassilitas, are surrounded by charming and picturesque villages which offer accommodation to skiers.

How To Get Here
