Ski Resorts in Georgia

The sovereign state of Georgia sits in the South Caucasus area of Eurasia, the mountain range is a natural border between Europe and Asia. It lies at the southern end of the Black Sea and shares borders with Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and, over the Caucasus mountains, Russia. Geographically it should be classed as part of Asia, but as it's a former Russian republic it is culturally Eastern European.

Georgia is a land steeped in history and has a beautiful and dramatic landscape. Interestingly archaeologists found the earliest traces of wine production here, dating back to 7000-5000BC. The climate and terrain lends itself perfectly to winter sports, and now that the transport links have improved dramatically, the rest of Western Europe have finally got the chance to discover this land between the Caspian and Black Seas.

What is The Atmosphere Like?

The Georgians are incredibly proud of their culture and their history and love the fact that people from elsewhere take the time to travel here. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere in Georgia and the locals will do anything they can to make your trip special.

Who Will Enjoy It?

Apart from the statutory skiing and snowboarding, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy in Georgia. The country is so small that you can easily do some exploring if you aren't the sporty type but prefer holidaying in the snow to the heat. The beautiful city of Tbilisi is the capital and well worth a visit. There has been an influx of new shops, bars and restaurants recently, and Tbilisi is a city that is going places.

How Many Resorts?

There are two main ski resorts in Georgia; Gudauri and Bakuriani. These undiscovered gems boast some of the best skiing in Europe, but have yet to be invaded by the masses so there is plenty of room to enjoy the splendour of the surroundings as well as the great snow. Guadari has unrestricted  landings for helicopters, and this is an exciting way of being dropped off at the top of the mountain and skiing down some of Europe's most sublime slopes.
